Pompeii – Vesuvius - Sorrento - Excursions from Port
Sorrento, an enchanting town built on tuff terraces, is a world reference point for tourism in Campania. Known above all for the mildness of its climate and the natural beauty of its small coves and bays located along the coast, Sorrento welcomes millions of tourists each year fascinated by the myth and history of the Land of the Sirens. To visit are the picturesque historic center, the main square dedicated to the famous poet Torquato Tasso, the Sedile Dominova, a 15th century gallery with its splendid majolica dome and its magnificent frescoes, the Cloister of San Francesco, the Cathedral and the street main shopping area where there are bars, restaurants, pizzerias, souvenir shops and local craft shops. During the catastrophe of 79 AD Vesuvius buried the entire city of Pompeii whose excavations today represent one of the main tourist destinations in the Campania region, as they return the image of a Roman city in its entirety. Pompeii has been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and has become a large archaeological park where you can admire the ancient Baths, the Temple of Venus, the Temple of Apollo, a pre-Roman basilica, the civil forum, the heart of the economic, religious and social life of the 'ancient city. And yet the Macellum, the Temple of Jupiter, the Temple of Vespasian and the Sanctuary of the Public Lares protectors of the city. Pompeii is also a succession of Pompeian houses, which were not only simple homes, but domestic and sacred places at the same time. Last stop of our excursion is the visit to the famous volcano Mount Vesuvius; a journey through history, geology and nature within the national park where the still active volcano is located. It will be possible to walk to the top of the crater, at about 1000 meters above sea level, from which you can admire a breathtaking view over the entire Gulf of Naples. Along the way there are naturalistic riches, fascinating landscapes, centuries-old crops, animal and vegetable species that make the Vesuvian area one of the most fascinating places in the world. Sorrento, Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius: itinerary Here is the itinerary of the tour, but of course if you want to stay in one of the towns for longer and in another town for less time, it is also possible. Keep in mind that the first hour of the tour is free, you also have the possibility to change the order of the following stops amongst eachother: 8:00 am pick up at port Sorrento- 45-50 mins to explore the town on your own trip proceeds to Pompeii- up to 2 hours to explore the ancient city lunch up at the hillside of Positano -one hour Vesuvius - 1hr30mins to explore the crater (the tickets to be pre-purchased on line ) Along the way, the driver will be providing information about the sites, stopping for pictures, and admiring the view. During the tour, we will recommend where to have lunch. The itinerary can be changed depending on the pickup location.
